When scrapbooking June pages, the obvious place to get ideas for your journaling is from the photos you took in June. The school year is winding down, graduations are being celebrated, then we celebrate Father’s Day and hooray for the first day of summer! As you look at your photos/events from June what stories are emerging?
In this post I’ll share some journaling prompts with you for June photos. You may be current or you may be working with photos from the 1960’s … it’s ok, just jump in where you’re at. I’ll be posting journal prompts every month this year so eventually we will have the whole year covered with journaling ideas.

June Journal Prompts
Here are some journaling prompts to help you tell your stories from the photos you took in June (any year). Of course we all have different events and life circumstances but if you are stuck and not sure what to write about in your journal or in your scrapbook albums, I hope these prompts help jumpstart your journaling!
- Graduation…graduation looks a lot different this year as many are being held virtually or in a drive-through fashion. We had many family members and friends graduate this year and it was such a joy to celebrate in person by attending a few grad parties. I wanted to include the graduation announcements on the page, so I added a Creative Memories Peekaboo Pocket as a safe place to put the announcements. - Last Day of School…if you have school age children, journal about the last day of school. I like to take a photo of my child on the first day of school and the last day of school – both photos taken by our front door so I can see how much they have grown in one school year. It is usually a remarkable change!
- Father’s Day…How do you celebrate this day? What traditions do you have? This Father’s Day our Jelly-in-the-Middle daughter surprised her dad by showing up at church! After church we went to a local park where we walked her puppies along the riverbank. Do you have a dad? a father? or a Here is a great quote I saw on a t-shirt recently: “It’s not a Dad Bod; it’s a Father Figure.”
- Happy Summer!…Summer begins and we can finally kick off our shoes, turn on the a/c and most importantly, stop sneezing! What signs of summer suddenly appear on your camera roll? June started out with an unprecedented heat wave – our little town reached 114 degrees! I happened to be on a trip to California during the heat wave and it was only 70 degrees. That is something I will journal about in my album: that I unintentionally escaped the Pacific Northwest heat by traveling to L.A. Ha!
- This was a Fantastic Day…did you have a Fantastic Day? Document a day in your life from June. For me, it took place on a Friday. I was finally able to visit my daughter after a year-and-a-half of not traveling due to the pandemic. The week I arrived the pandemic restrictions finally loosened up and I could see her sans mask (I only had to wear a mask when I was on the airplane). I got to meet my grandpup in person for the first time! We grabbed breakfast (my favorite meal) and took a walk along the beach. We lounged by the pool. We went out to dinner on restaurant row with outdoor seating. We ate Jamaican food as group after group of people (real, live humans!) continuously walked by, live music played, and laughter and conversation ensued. It was like stepping back in time to a carefree era. Almost normal enough to question if this past year and a half was even real? Like did we really just lock ourselves in for a year? Did we really lose so many loved ones to this horrible pandemic? Did we really survive and perhaps are we seeing a light at the end of the covid tunnel? It was a Fantastic Day.
- This is Home…I grew up in southern California so when I visited my daughter there it brought up a lot of memories and emotions. In one respect it felt like Home even though I’ve spent the past 30 years living in the Pacific Northwest which also feels like Home. I feel at Home sitting on a beach watching waves crash onto the sand. I feel at Home walking through a dense forest with a carpet of leaves at my feet. I feel at Home when I see my daughter loving life in the sunshine. I feel at Home spending time with one of my best childhood friends. Where do you feel “this is Home”? Travel always gives me fresh perspective on my home.
