When scrapbooking April pages, the obvious place to get ideas for your journaling is from the photos you took in April. We are in the middle of Spring kicking off with Easter Sunday. As you look at your photos/events from April what stories are emerging?

In this post I’ll share some journaling prompts with you for April photos. You may be current or you may be working with photos from the 1960’s … it’s ok, just jump in where you’re at. I’ll be posting journal prompts every month this year so eventually we will have the whole year covered with journaling ideas.

Besides photos, another place to get journaling ideas is from the current Sticker Packs and Variety Mat Packs you are using. Some of my April Journal Prompts are from my photos and some are from Creative Memories Easter Blessings Theme Pack and Love Each Other 2 Theme Pack.

April Journal Prompts

Here are some journaling prompts to help you tell your stories from the photos you took in April (any year). Of course we all have different events and life circumstances but if you are stuck and not sure what to write about in your journal or in your scrapbook albums, I hope these prompts help jumpstart your journaling!

  • EasterEaster Egg Hunt…Easter Basket…Family Traditions…how do you celebrate Easter? What traditions do you have? This is the first year we didn’t have an egg hunt. We still made Easter baskets (oops, I mean the Easter Bunny did that) for our two kids at home. I usually take photos of the baskets and the egg hunt but this year just wasn’t feeling it. Do your kids have a favorite candy they look forward to every Easter? Document that. What were your favorite Easter candies growing up? Are you a Peeps fan or nah?
  • Easter Sunday Church Service…this Easter we went to church in person for the first time in over a year! It was an interesting experience and on my scrapbook pages and journal I wrote about the differences between virtual church and in-person church. It’s a catch-22 because the worship music sounded much better in person but singing with a mask on was not enjoyable! How about you? Do you go to church? Is it a regular every Sunday attendance or only on holidays? Take a photo of the front of your place of worship if you want to document this special place in your scrapbook or journal.
  • Easter Brunch…a big part of holidays is the food, am I right? Our go-to Easter menu is a honey-baked ham, scallop potatoes and asparagus. My Hero surprised us this year and after church took us out to Brunch! At a restaurant! What a treat! There is a saying at Creative Memories that you can always tell a Creative Memories Advisor at a restaurant because they are the ones taking photos of the food. Social media has made that more socially acceptable but it was funny how every convention we were all taking photos of our catered dinners and desserts. That was me on Easter Sunday. I was so excited about our Lord and Savior who is risen indeed and I was also so excited about Waffles with toasted coconut and lemon curd. Yum. How about you? Do you have favorite foods or restaurants you enjoyed in April? If you didn’t take photos, you can include a favorite family recipe in your scrapbook or journal.
  • Making History…To be Vaccinated or not be Vaccinated? That is the question. For some of you this is an easy decision. If you’re like me, this was (and still is) a difficult decision. I wrote in my journal “a bit of fear…a bit of hope.” If you decide to get vaccinated, take a photo of you with your vaccination card. This is historic! Your journal is a great place to document your feelings about getting (or not getting) the vaccine. List any side effects you may have had and how long they lasted. Where did you have to go to get the vaccine and who administered it to you? Were you excited, nervous, hopeful, all of the above? Never in our lifetimes have we lived through a pandemic. We are making history.

Journaling Tip: Write in Circles

In April Page Layout 2, (see video here) you’ll see how to cut one of your photos into a circle, then below the circle you can journal directly on the page in an arch pattern.

Journaling Tip: Use Journal Mats

Creative Memories Variety Mat Packs come with some journaling boxes that are lined. You can add Title Stickers to the box like I did on this page using the Party Time! Sticker Pack and ABC/123 Stickers.

I hope some of these ideas are helpful for you as you write in your scrapbooks, planners and journals. (For March journaling prompts, check out March Journal Prompts). If you would like weekly encouragement with your writing, join my Wednesday Writers Club on Instagram or Facebook!
