Happy New Year? Well, we can hope anyway!
We are living through an historic time. I encourage you to write down your thoughts about what is going on around you. Future generations are going to be so interested to hear from you. How did your life change in 2020? What are some of the struggles you are facing and how do you think we can overcome?
What are some blessings that have come out of 2020? Have you seen anything that encourages you? Do you have hope for the future? These are dark times and hard to find hope (at least for me) but I take heart in knowing there is a bigger picture. That in the scope of worldly things, what remains is eternal. And what is eternal is Love. How can we show love during this time?
One way I have found to show love for my family is to print our photos, put them in an album and write down how very special each person is. Our scrapbooks can become more than scraps. They can become an affirmation, a journal, a story. The process of making these albums allows me to reflect on life, count my blessings and relive the moments that make up the dash of our lives.
Have you read the poem The Dash by Linda Ellis? It refers to the dates on a tombstone from birth to death but what matters most is the dash in between. That dash represents the life that was lived. “That dash represents all the time they spent alive on earth and now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth.”
Can you find some worth in your life and the lives of those you love? Write that down. Now more than ever we need to be reminded of how precious life is. It’s easy to tear people down. Let’s lift each other up through our spoken and written words. Whether it’s a scrapbook, a card or a journal….or a sky writer! Shine your light through your story. Your dash matters.
So Happy New Year….and Cheers to a Picture-taking, Memory-making 2021!
