The main place I get my January journaling ideas is from the photos I took in January. If you’re like me, you have a lot of photos on your phone. I usually go through them just one month at a time and put my favorite ones into a folder “To Print” on my i-Phone. Then when I go to my Walgreen app or Creative Memories photo printing service, I can just upload that folder to be printed. Then everything that is in that folder will be printed. After the photos are printed, I can delete that folder off of my phone. The original photos will still be on my camera roll. Next month I will do the same thing, scroll through my February photos and select my favorites to be put into a TO PRINT folder and repeat the above process. January Journal Prompts
Here are some journaling prompts to help you tell your stories from January. Of course we all have different events and life circumstances but if you are stuck and not sure what to write about in your journal or in your scrapbook albums, I hope these prompts help jumpstart your journaling!
- Happy New Year! How did you celebrate New Year’s Day? Do you have a Word of the Year? This is a great page to reflect on the coming year and set your intentions. For examples check out my Happy New Year 2021 Post.
- Winter…is this your favorite season? least favorite? why? Do you have any winter traditions? What do your pets think of winter?
- All Bundled Up…I’m imagining the cutest photos of your babies or pets bundled up in their snow gear! If you have little ones, a fun idea is to write from their perspective.
- Cold Hands, Warm Heart….what heart warming stories do you want to share from January?
- Inauguration Day…in 2021 in the U.S. our 46th President took office. I usually include a photo of the incoming President in our photo albums. It is an historical reference that may be meaningful to future generations. Check out my Inauguration Day Post.
- Snow, Snow, Snow…depending on where you live…Did you receive more snow that usual this year? Less? What do you do when it snows? Can you still get to work?
- Winter Walks…when my son was little, I would take him on a “Let’s find Winter” walk (I did this for each season as a Preschool teacher too). This is a great opportunity to take photos and discover Winter together. You can do an entire page spread just on the signs of winter you see.
- Snow Day Fun….did you take any time off work? My husband brought our son and daughter up to the mountain for some snow skiing. Capture those stories and photos on your January pages. Include a lift ticket or record the snow pack measurement.
- Home….do you decorate for the seasons? How does your home look or feel different from winter to spring? We get out the cozy pillows and lots of fluffy blankets. I have photos of our cat snuggling on dad, our fireplace burning in the background, me holding my favorite hot chocolate mug.
- Outdoor Adventures…sledding, skiing, or trips to tropical places, where do you go when you go outside in January?
- Vaccinated…2021 some of you are having your first series of vaccinations for the Covid-19 virus. We are living in a pandemic and nothing is “normal” this January. My heart goes out to those of you who have lost loved ones through this terrible virus. Be sure to document this time so you can look back and remember how much things changed. It will be interesting to see what stayed the same and what completely changed in our lives.
