When scrapbooking September pages, the obvious place to get ideas for your journaling is from the photos you took in September. One of my favorite quotes is
Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower
Albert Camus
September brings a cool morning chill to the air and sometimes a warm afternoon. Dressing in layers and wearing shoes again perhaps to go back to school or reminisce of school days gone by. I picture fresh school supplies, bright yellow school buses, sunflowers in the garden and football as we gather for friday night lights. As you look at your photos/events from September what stories are emerging?
In this post I’ll share some journaling prompts with you for September photos. You may be current or you may be working with photos from the 1960’s … it’s ok, just jump in where you’re at. I’ll be posting journal prompts every month until I have the whole year covered with journaling ideas. Besides photos, another place to get journaling ideas is from the current Sticker Packs and Variety Mat Packs you are using. Some of my September Journal Prompts are from my photos and some are from Creative Memories It’s Fall Y’All Sticker Pack.
September Journal Prompts
Here are some journaling prompts to help you tell your stories from the photos you took in September (any year). Of course we all have different events and life circumstances but if you are stuck and not sure what to write about in your journal or in your scrapbook albums, I hope these prompts help jumpstart your journaling!
- Leaves…what kind of trees do you have where you live? Do you get the tell tell signs of fall by the changing canopy of red, orange and brown? Or are you in a perpetual state of sunshine and palm trees?
- Labor Day…became a national holiday in 1894 and is a day off of work to celebrate American workers and industry. I’ve always known it as the “last long weekend before school starts.” This would be a good place in your scrapbook or journal to list the jobs that you and your family have. Or do a little personal history and see if you can recall every job you’ve ever had. Have you stuck with one career your whole life or do you jump around to different jobs and fields as opportunity knocks?
- Pumpkin Spice…yes, I’m one of those who looks forward with anticipation to her first Pumpkin Spice latte. My daughter and I usually take a photo of the yummy goodness – topped with whipped cream and pumpkin spice sprinkles. What are your favorite fall drinks? Do you enjoy coffee or tea or are you a cocoa or hot cider lover? I’m sure my grandmother would be shocked at how much money I spend driving through the local coffee shop for my “cup of liquid candy”…oh, how times changed!
- First Day of School…it’s been a trend for awhile now to have your child hold a sign for their first day of school photo. If you are scrapbooking photos from school days a long time ago and you don’t have a sign in the photo, here are some things to journal for the first day of school photo: Name, Grade, School, Teacher’s name. If you can recall extra details, add these such as Favorite Color, Favorite Food, Favorite Hobbies or Sports.
- School Days…for ideas on what to include in a school album, be sure and check out my video and blog post: September Page Layouts/How to Make a School Scrapbook
- Harvest…do you have a garden? You should be at peak harvest time in September and this is a great time to take photos and record your garden crop. What grew well this year? What didn’t do so well and do you know why? This is the first year that we have had our grape vines produce grapes! We had a nice batch of pinot grapes and were able to actually make our first couple of bottles of wine this year! I’m definitely documenting this whole process and we will refer to these note next year when we try to produce even more. (Next year I will net the grapes before the birds get to them!)
I hope these journal prompts and ideas are helpful to you as you write in your scrapbooks, planners and journals. (For August journal prompts, check out August Journal Prompts). If you would like weekly encouragement with your writing, join my Wednesday Writers Club on Instagram or Facebook!
