Welcome back to Scrapbooking FUN with Donna Lyn! In this post and video you’ll learn a simple system for creating a birthday album and you’ll see step-by-step how I created the pages for ages 6-15 in my son’s birthday album.

These 8×8 birthday books are a way to celebrate your child or grandchild and as you add photos from their birthday each year, you’ll be able to see the progression of time and how much your child has grown from year to year.

For the foundation of these pages I trimmed 12×12 designer paper into 8×8 sheets to completely cover the scrapbook page. I cut the leftover pieces into 2×8 inch strips to use as borders on the outside edge of the pages. I tape everything down with Repositionable Tape Runner as this allows me to move things around. I use Foam Squares to stick down any stickers or embellishments as this gives them a 3D look on your pages.

At the end of this post, I’ve included easy instructions plus a supply list of what was shown in the video. For more detailed instructions and a flip-through of the entire album (ages 1-15 so far) see this post: 8×8 Birthday Album

Easy Formula for 8×8 Birthday Page Layout:

  • 8×8 inch Scrapbook Paper Background
  • 2×8 inch Scrapbook Paper Border in coordinating design
  • 1 or 2 Mats from a Variety Mat Pack
  • Photo of the Birthday Child and Cake
  • Group Photo if there was a party
  • Add a Title Sticker using Foam Squares
  • Add Number Stickers to designate their birthday age.
  • Add Journaling strips or a Journal box to document this special day

Tips:

  • Use Repositionable Tape Runner to adhere paper, mats and photos down. This allows you to move things around if needed.
  • Use Foam Squares to adhere Stickers and Embellishments because it gives them a little pop and adds dimension to your page layout. (Don’t use Foam Squares on the number stickers as they are too narrow)
  • If you would like to see how I put together pages for ages 1-5, check out this video: Birthday Album Layouts Ages 1-5

This is a book you can start anytime – whether you have 18 birthdays to document or you are just starting out with your child’s first birthday. Just a page a year is a very doable project and a book you will treasure for a lifetime!
